Psalm 29

The Voice of the Lord in the Storm.

Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty,
Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in holy array.
The voice of the Lord is upon the waters;
The God of glory thunders,
The Lord is over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful,
The voice of the Lord is majestic.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
Yes, the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,
And Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord hews out flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
The Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord makes the deer to calve
And strips the forests bare;
And in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
10 The Lord sat as King at the flood;
Yes, the Lord sits as King forever.
11 The Lord will give strength to His people;
The Lord will bless His people with peace.

What is the writer trying to say?

Our God is supream.
Every line is just shouting out the supremacy of God.
Ascribe.... to the sons of the mighty - the angels, His strength, His glory, and His name.
Worship the Lord! why? and so it lists.

How can we apply this to our lives?

 As I start to read this I want to burst out and start singing:

ASCRIBE GREATNESS TO OUR GOD THE ROCK

Ascribe greatness to our God, the Rock, His work is perfect,
And all His ways are just.
A God of faithfulness and without injustice, good and upright is He.

This Psalm makes me just want to continue to praising the Lord..
We can use psalms like these to pray, and goloryfy the Lord, the passage speaks for itself and brings great joy to every belivers heart, the true reason why Chrisianity is the only way to be saved from God's wrath and that He is the only True Living God. Amen.

Psalm 26

02/01/2011 – Daily Devotions
Psalm 26 (NIV)
 1 Vindicate me, LORD,
   for I have led a blameless life;
I have trusted in the LORD
   and have not faltered.
2 Test me, LORD, and try me,
   examine my heart and my mind;
3 for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love
   and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.

 4 I do not sit with the deceitful,
   nor do I associate with hypocrites.
5 I abhor the assembly of evildoers
   and refuse to sit with the wicked.
6 I wash my hands in innocence,
   and go about your altar, LORD,
7 proclaiming aloud your praise
   and telling of all your wonderful deeds.

 8 LORD, I love the house where you live,
   the place where your glory dwells.
9 Do not take away my soul along with sinners,
   my life with those who are bloodthirsty,
10 in whose hands are wicked schemes,
   whose right hands are full of bribes.
11 I lead a blameless life;
   deliver me and be merciful to me.

 12 My feet stand on level ground;
   in the great congregation I will praise the LORD.

What is the writer saying?

As we are all born sinners, the writer is here confirming that he is a reborn Christian and starts by the most important of all, his dependence on God,
Vindicate me  - Judge, another truth that he accepts by telling us that God will be the Judge
how he has trusted the Lord, and not faltered, this is a strong examine of the heart and needs to be true to yourself by examining it. Can you say this of yourself
God’s love is unfailing that’s for sure, but yet we fail in this, do we love unconditionally
He then goes to describe what his daily life is like.
and finishes with an outlook of his eschatology (end times) and his final requests for God to be merciful and forgive him of his doings.

How can I apply this to my life?

 We sin daily and need to confess these sins to God so that we can be forgiven, firstly and foremost to ask God into our lives. The example that the writer David sets for us here is high, as often we mix with these sinners of the world and try to be associated with them, here he explains how he tries to stay away from them, not because he does not like them, but because he does not want to become like them, a great application that we can use in our lives. And last but not least be sold out for Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 6:12-19

12A worthless person, a wicked man,
         Is the one who walks with a perverse mouth,
    13Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet,
         Who points with his fingers;
    14Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil,
         Who spreads strife.
    15Therefore his calamity will come suddenly;
         Instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.
    16There are six things which the LORD hates,
         Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
    17Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
         And hands that shed innocent blood,
    18A heart that devises wicked plans,
         Feet that run rapidly to evil,
    19A false witness who utters lies,
         And one who spreads strife among brothers.

What is the writer saying?

Well let us first look at who and where the writer is.

Solomon is ascribed to be the author but looking a little later he is not the only author of the book, proverbs, but is very likely the author here, writing it some between 715 and 686 BC

A wicked man could be the title of this section, and it goes about this topic through the verses telling us what a wicked person is, and what God thinks of them…

V12 -15 describes what a wicked man is.

  • Worthless
  • Evil
  • Perverse
  • Sneaky
  • Undercover
  • Perverted
  • Corrupt

These are just some words explained by the text and finishes in v15 telling us that disaster will strike and it will happen, quickly, before the "wicked" man can even notice, and on top of it all there will be no cure, it will destroy you.
So who is this "wicked" man, because I'm not wicked, or is it maybe all of us? If you think about it, it may even apply to sin, that we all live in.

V16-19 describes the seven things God finds detestable.

The rest is very self explanatory, it lists the items straight forward.

How can I apply this to my life?

If you are honest with yourself you cannot deny that these thoughts have not gone through your mind before, and this makes me aware of who we are and what we do…

SINNERS, it is only by the grace of God are we saved and the mercy may we enter His kingdom.

Ask God for forgiveness of your sins and accept Him into your life as your saviour.

Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love. Amen
